WITNESSING the life of a police officer first-hand is now just the click of a mouse-button away.
Community officer Saif Khan, of the Halifax Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, is the first officer in the West Yorkshire force to use internet site YouTube to broadcast 999 TV.

PC Khan – a well-known figure around Boothtown – has compiled an online diary showing policing at grassroots. The 40-plus day-to-day clips are now available on the website, with those from other officers of various ranks expected to follow.

He said: "It is not always possible for every resident to see the officer who works in their neighbourhood. This way, at the click of a button, people are able to see what officers have been doing recently.

"Hopefully this innovative method of communicating our work will give confidence to members of the public in reporting incidents to the police."

PC Khan's first clip, viewed by 1,209 people, shows him recounting his day's work.

West Yorkshire Police e-communications manager, Patrick Brooke, said: "The video diaries are generating a lot of interest. It's not just someone talking on screen, it's reality."

Hmm, nice idea, although i can't help thinking that the West Yorks Constabulary will be using this as an example of how Boothtown residents "have immediate access to their community bobby".

Maybe PC Khan can record a short "Oi, you're nicked!" video for when the areas feral youth break into someone's house and lift their PC?

Seriously though, i applaud the thinking behind this. It can't do any harm knowing who your local bobby is and what they're up to.

Maybe councillors can do something similar?

Peter Avinou - as far is im concerned police officers are over worked and underpaid. From your previous posts you appear adament in leaving negative comments about them. On what grounds do you base your comments? and what part do you play in helping the community?

Andy1,
The officers are indeed as you say.
I attend meetings with The WYPA and whilst there we discuss what the police are doing, and what the WYPA would like them do.
All the local areas are involved, so this is a broad consensus from all areas.
Recent suggestions made about certain areas not being adequately policed have been discussed, and passed on to The Chief Constable.
You will have seen our local area commander's statement that the new policing was a great success?
Yet 12 areas report no increase in policing, or none at all.
One reported two officers at ASDA stores, Halifax.
Current reports still show no further improvement.
This is contrary to promises made by the WYP and does not meet the expectations we were encouraged to have.
I have had many officers in my home discussing such matters, all of them wish to police in the "old" fashioned way.
This is not being permitted, for reasons not yet stated.
We shall have to wait for the next WYPA meetings to be brought up to date.
This is why I am very negative about the way policing is being manipulated, not to our advantage but to another undefined, unstated agenda.
I hope that my reason is clear, and there are many others like me, including the front line officers, who are trying to get what everyone says is needed - effective, local on the spot policing.
The WYPA authorities meetings are well advertised before the event, and anybody with a genuine interest is welcome. The discussions are usually very detailed and frank. There is no curtailment of input.
I am also the Secretary of my local Residents Association, a job I do to the best of my ability. I have the responsibility for two neigbourhood notice boards which I use to display information from all sources, including the WYP.
I was a volunteer in policing, but am now too old, I attended The Police College in Wakefield and I subscribe to the WYP internet services.
I have expertise in communications, and I was a member of The society of emer

Sorry, the courier blocks longer replies thus the above has been shortened.
I am not anti police, entirely the opposite, but I want a return to effective visible policing. This is the main demand from all sources.
regards.

I agree with you Andy, POLICE OFFICERS ARE OVER WORKED AND UNDER PAID. I think that it is a daft (Amusing)idea but it is also a good idea at that! It gets the local community involved. They can only but try new ways and if it doesnt work! It doesnt work! It shows in a way that they do care! They wouldnt do this if they thought it wouldnt work, they havent got time to be putting togther ideas like this just for it to fail at first break.
