It's 99p a pint, just like 1989! Wetherspoon takes prices back 20 years

TWO Calderdale pubs are taking prices back 20 years – with pints for only 99p.
The price cuts are on beer, bottled lager, spirits, wine and food, at The Richard Oastler in Bethel Street, Brighouse, and the Barum Top Inn in Rawson Street, Halifax.
Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has introduced the cheaper booze and food offers in what they say is a bid to help customers beat the economic downturn. But Richard Oastler manager Andrew Reynolds denied that the low-cost alcohol would encourage people to binge drink.
He said: "I'm offering leading brands of drinks at excellent prices and the choice means that there is something on offer to suit most tastes.
"People enjoy going to the pub but I appreciate that the economic downturn means that they now have to be more careful with their money," he said.
According to the Campaign for Real Ale, in 1989 the average cost of a pint of beer was 96p.
"Unlike most sales that start in January, the pub's offers will not be ending within days, but will run indefinitely."
From today five different meals will be available for £2.99 and five different drinks will be on offer, including Greene King IPA and bottles of San Miguel from 99p.
"As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly," said Mr Reynolds.
