KERBSIDE recycling was due to meet refuse contractor Sita today to reach an agreement over the new collection system.
The community company at Luddenden Foot is still hoping to sign a deal with Sita but if that fails it will carry on collecting from 25,000 homes as it has done since 2006.

"We would be happy to work with Sita and these talks are about a possible way forward," said Kerbside chief executive Paul Brannigan.

"But it must be a sustainable and viable solution."

The meeting has been arranged by Calderdale Council, which has appointed French firm Sita to take over refuse collection from the end of July.

Sita is gearing up to provide all the recycling services but has signed a contract with the council in which it seeks to work with the voluntary sector.

A council spokesman said: "We are actively involved in seeking to help find a way to involve the voluntary sector in recycling household waste.

"To this end, the council has organised a meeting with Sita and Kerbside to discuss options."
