FUND-RAISING schoolchildren got a treat after making hundreds for charity by selling raffle tickets.
The Mayor of Calderdale Martin Peel set pupils at Whitehill Primary School, Illingworth, Halifax, a challenge to see which class could sell the most tickets for his charities – the renal unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital and the Halifax RSPCA.
The whole school brought in a massive £500 for the appeal and class 14 was the group which sold the most tickets, making about £55.
Councillor Peel rewarded the class, who are all 11, by inviting them for a guided tour of Halifax Town Hall and tea in the Mayor's Parlour.
Head teacher Roy Hepplestone said: "The children are fantastic, every opportunity they get to do good in the community they really embrace it. I am ever so proud of them all."
The school also had a non-uniform day to raise funds.
