A 47-year-old man has been seriously injured after falling off a bar stool.
Emergency services were called to The Punch Bowl, Huddersfield Road, Halifax, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary suffering form a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly a man named "Dave" who tended to the injured man until an ambulance arrived.
Detective Sergeant Bill Hargreaves said: "We think he has fallen of a bar stool and has hit with a fair bang a thin carpet on a stone floor. We think he was seriously drunk.
"But we are as happy as we can be that nothing suspicious has happened. It was just an accident.
"We are appealing for witnesses, particularly a regular at the pub called Dave who gave him assistance."
