A MAN attacked a female police officer as she tried to arrest him for damaging a pub's beer garden.
Craig Pickles, 28, threw a plant pot, punched three hanging baskets, tipped tables upside down and kicked the baskets around like footballs.

When police were called, the officer was pushed over and struck in the face during a struggle, Calderdale
magistrates heard.

Pickles, of Rockville Terrace, Savile Park, Halifax, admitted assaulting a police officer, resisting a police officer and damaging property.

He was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months with a supervision requirement and ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £400 compensation and £60 prosecution costs.

The court heard the offences occurred on June 28 at the White Horse Inn, Southgate, Halifax.

Vince O'Malley, prosecuting, said Pickles caused a total of £150 damage and when the officers attempted to search and arrest him he pushed over a female officer.

Mr O'Malley said: "He was constantly kicking her in the arms and legs while on the floor."

Pickles, who was flailing about, then punched the officer in the face in what was described as a "glancing blow".

CS spray was used and officers had to sit on Pickles's legs to prevent further injuries being caused.

He had taken cocaine and had been drinking.

The court heard that he had also had an argument with his girlfriend and was upset by his mounting debts.

Kieron Green, for Pickles, said he apologised to the officer when he was taken to the police station.

If it weren't for the cocaine and drinking he wouldn't have the mounting debts...

I´m surprised he didn´t beat his girlfriend up. It seems to be the favourite pastime of everybody else who features on this news page.
