TERRIFIED pub customers were caught up in a violent dispute last night when men brandished a sawn-off shotgun.
Three men were seen in a Land Rover outside The Royal Oak, Lower Edge Road, Elland, waving the weapon about. Witnesses reported shots being fired.

Armed police were called and tailed the dark-coloured vehicle to the Black Swan, Briggate, Brighouse, where three men were arrested. One is 34, one 35 and the age of the third man is as yet unknown.

Police were called to The Royal Oak at 6.20pm yesterday (Thursday).

Customers at the Royal Oak saw the 4x4 crash into a wall at the pub before speeding off towards Rastrick.

The drama comes just days after the fatal stabbing of 34-year-old Billy Khan. He died in Poplar Court, Rosebery Street, last Friday.

A woman whose husband had been drinking at a pub near the Black Swan said he had heard shots had been fired.

"He told me the Black Swan was cordoned off by police."

Today, Lower Edge Road remained taped off from the Royal Oak Pub to the junction of Church Lane. Police were guarding the scene.

One neighbour said it had been cordoned off since about 6pm. He said: "I know it's something to do with the Royal Oak. They were sweeping glass up outside the pub. It must be something serious."
