NEW homes have gone on sale on part of a former council estate at Illingworth, Halifax.
More than £15 million is being spent on transforming the Dudley estate by demolishing less popular properties, improving others and building 31 new ones.
Southdale Homes has begun to market three-bedroomed homes for between £100,000 and £125,000 but will also be building some two-bedroom split level apartments for less than £90,000.
Pennine Housing, which is spearheading the restoration scheme in partnership with Calderdale Council, will be building some new properties to rent and making some available through a shared ownership scheme.
It has taken five years to get the redevelopment scheme to this point and it could be the end of 2009 before it is complete.
"Some demolition is still taking place but the project to transform the area is now well underway and should bring huge benefits to those who live there," said the council's head of housing, Mark Thompson.
Once the scheme is finished there will be 183 properties on the estate, compared with the 177 that have existed until now. Of these, 96 will be owner-occupied. Many of the new homes are being fitted with new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating systems, new roofing, fences, windows and doors.
Off-road parking spaces are being provided wherever possible.
