Nurse's 24-peak challenge was like skiing Everest twice

NOT even a twisted knee could stop Cara Barnes from completing a 24-peak skiing challenge.
The specialist nurse endoscopist from Greetland covered 130 kilometres of Austrian slopes in just two days – the equivalent of skiing down Mount Everest twice.
Despite twisting her knee during the trip, she carried on with the rest of her team to raise £56,000 for cerebral palsy charity Scope.
Even though Cara, 38, has tackled the challenge twice before, she said it did not get any easier.
"It was very hard work in very hard conditions," she said.
"There could be thick cloud at the top of the mountains and rain at the bottom.
The skiing was very fast and of a very high standard.
"It is the hardest thing I have ever done, both physically and mentally, but it is well worth it and I have already signed up for next year."
Cara works in the endoscopy departments at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
She has been skiing since she was 12 and first took part in the Artis White Peaks Challenge in 2005 for Scope after her friend's daughter was diagnosed cerebral palsy.
The condition affects the brain and nervous system and cause problems with movement and co-ordination.
