CALDERDALE will be celebrating Team GB's Olympic success with a flag-raising cermony this Sunday outside North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax.
The event will coincide with the Beijing closing ceremony and the handover celebrations for London 2012.

Calderdale will be joining hundreds of areas across the UK raising the unique London 2012 flag at 4pm.

There will also be trampoline and gymnastics displays inside the centre from 3pm, followed by the flag raising ceremony at 4pm.

Calderdale councillor Amanda Byrne, community services portfolio holder, will raise the flag with North Bridge Leisure Centre staff and young people from local sports teams.

She said: "By raising the Olympic flag, we are not only celebrating the success of British athletes in Beijing, but also demonstrating our commitment to raising the profile of sport and activity in Calderdale."

When the games come to Britain we will learn of Britain's oppressive short comings, perhaps the acts of torture, banging in others countries enforcing regime change.

Its easy to knock this sort of limp corporate bandwagonning - but the fact remains that not enough of us do enough sport.

Any opportunity to get our increasingly lardy populace to break a sweat is perhaps no bad thing?

We need more solutions - not more problems.

Either get involved in making the place better - or please shut up.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Kingcrossite - stop repeating what you have seen on Newsnight once after watching Wife Swap. That has got absolutely nothing to do with this modest event at North Bridge.

Shameless oportunism.
