Hebden Royd town councillor Janet Oosthuysen, pictured, has been chosen as Labour's prospective Parliamentary candidate for the Calder Valley.
She will stand instead of Chris McCafferty who has been the MP since 1997 and has decided to retire at the next General Election.

The two other candidates shortlisted were trades union activist Jane Lewis, of Bury, and Stephenie Booth, who is married to Cherie Blair's father, Tony Booth, and has lived in Todmorden for the past three years.

Hmm... let's see. Good luck love - with that Scot leading your party you haven't really got much chance of being elected. If Chris had gone on, she might have won because she's not a bad MP. But a new woman, on the ballot paper as Labour - no chance!! I think Calder Valley's going blue.

Congratulations Janet. The best woman got the job!

As for you ryburn, i'm appalled at your "...better than the present MP by a mile" comment. Not is it showing your blatant sexism by criticising McCafferty, a WOMAN, you are also being anti-EU by using the word 'mile' instead of 1.609344km.

FOR SHAME!

The People of Calder Valley need to know more about this prospective candidate. Is there anywhere I can find out her history etc?

Sorry Ryburn, you're out of it.
The next election has already been decided. The economy will be a mess and Brown will be skidding on the bananas he keeps throwing infront of himself. When the economy goes belly up, the party in power always gets the blame. Like a bet on it?

Rob, ryburn doesn't like putting her money where her mouth is. That dubious pleasure is reserved for her foot.

Ryburn,
Get to the doctors mate, you've a screw loose.

I'm totally unconvinced by any of your meanderings - and I'm ALWAYS keen to listen to a good argument. Let's just wait for the vote - good bye labour!!!
And good riddance!
That's NOT to say the Tories will be better. It is to say Labour have run their course.
