PARENTS horrified by an increasingly bitter campaign to have two suspended teachers reinstated at a school have criticised the actions of protestors.
The new alliance say they fear pupils at Calder High, Mytholmroyd, are having their education disrupted by pupils' demonstrations and parents who have organised internet pressure groups.

Writing in an open letter, they labelled those behind the campaign disruptive, irresponsible and unrepresentative of the community.

They pledged support to the investigation of English teachers Leonora Rustamova – who was suspended after publishing a book Stop! Don't Read This featuring pupils – and Steve Cann.

The letter, signed by 17 parents, said they backed the way school managers were trying to deal with the situation and how unions were supporting their members.

"But we also want it clearly understood the actions of a few people keen on causing trouble in no way represents the views of all parents – or even, we believe, many of them."

The letter comes after a group – the Friends Of Rusty and Steve – organised a public meeting to demand the pair be allowed back to school. It takes place tonight.

No, the PARENTS (all 17 of them) wrote the letter.

The catchment area of Calder High borders on Halifax - Halifax is part of Calderdale, which is the local authority, so as citizens of Calderdale we are interested - parochiality is not something to be encouraged. And, Sainted Fiona, I did not say 17 parents do not matter, after all they represent 8.5 pupils at the school, I am merely wondering where the other 1000+ parents are? Of course the parents of 8.5 pupils matter.

At the end of the day, regardless of whether they have broken the law or ethics or anything else, the teacher should have known better.

In the days of needing forms to be signed before children's photo's can be taken, someone was bound to object.

#14 "we have the great ignorant lecturing us" - I do sooooooooooooooo agree. Oh, and by the way, it is "Meerkat" not "Mearkat". I assume you were one of the "11 plus failures" presuming to lecture us.
