PARENTS horrified by an increasingly bitter campaign to have two suspended teachers reinstated at a school have criticised the actions of protestors.
The new alliance say they fear pupils at Calder High, Mytholmroyd, are having their education disrupted by pupils' demonstrations and parents who have organised internet pressure groups.
Writing in an open letter, they labelled those behind the campaign disruptive, irresponsible and unrepresentative of the community.
They pledged support to the investigation of English teachers Leonora Rustamova – who was suspended after publishing a book Stop! Don't Read This featuring pupils – and Steve Cann.
The letter, signed by 17 parents, said they backed the way school managers were trying to deal with the situation and how unions were supporting their members.
"But we also want it clearly understood the actions of a few people keen on causing trouble in no way represents the views of all parents – or even, we believe, many of them."
The letter comes after a group – the Friends Of Rusty and Steve – organised a public meeting to demand the pair be allowed back to school. It takes place tonight.
