A FORMER Calderdale man will swim the Channel for charity.
Paul Greenhalgh, originally from Brighouse, decided to raise money for an ichthyosis charity after a friend's daughter was diagnosed with the genetic disorder that leads to skin problems.

He said: "A Channel swimmer covers himself with grease once in his lifetime and it's a bit of fun.

"But for an ichthyosis sufferer, covering every inch of skin with grease is a daily chore.

"It's an appalling condition but few people understand it. Ichthy-osis charities really struggle."

The 44-year-old, who now lives in Surrey, hopes to raise £2,000.

He will lead a team of five on the 35-km swim between August 26 and September 2, depending on tides.
