A TEENAGE girl was attacked in a car during the early hours of today (Tuesday).
Police said the 17-year-old, from the Todmorden area, had been the victim of a serious sexual assault, in a car park, off Rochdale Road, Walsden, Todmorden.
The area has been taped off all day while police carried out an examination of the scene.
Terry Egan, licensee of the Waggon and Horses, opposite the scene, said: "I woke up at 3am and saw police dragging one of my benches over so they could put police tape round the car park."
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating an allegation of a serious sexual assault which was reported to us at 1.20am today.
"The investigation is in its very early stages and specially trained officers will be speaking to the girl. Inquiries are ongoing."
West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) are leading the investigation.
