A SHOCKING film depicting the rape of a woman is being broadcast in Halifax town centre to encourage people to stay safe this Christmas.
The hard-hitting short film aimed at tackling sex attacks will be shown at the Woolshops on Wednesday after 9pm.

It is being released by police who say sexual assaults against women usually increase during the festive period.

Halifax is one o
f five places in West Yorkshire where the film is being shown.

Chief Superintendent Barry South, from West Yorkshire Police's local policing, said: "We want everyone to have a good time during their nights out over the coming weeks and then to make sure they get home safely.

"Our officers will be out providing reassurance and assistance to revellers, particularly vulnerable women.

"I would urge everyone to drink responsibly and avoid making themselves vulnerable through binge drinking.

"I hope that this campaign will make people sit up and take note of these simple measures, to keep themselves out of trouble."

Officers will also be using Bluetooth technology to send out messages to revellers and posters and postcards will also be on display.

They will also be carrying out high-visibility patrols and will be on the look out for bogus taxi drivers.

When the same campaign was run last year, police said there was a 26 per cent cut in the number of serious sexual offences in West Yorkshire.

They say the messages are have fun, know your limits, stay with your friends and arrange a licensed taxi ride home.

Detective Inspector Mark Gaunt from Operation Topaz - West Yorkshire Police's dedicated rape investigation unit - said: "Victims of sexual assault can be confident that when the police answer their call for help, they will be put first, all the time, every time and they will be provided experienced and trained specialist services.

"Victims of rape or any sexual offence have their lives shattered by this type of crime and take years to overcome so I cannot stress enough the importance of being responsible and careful when out in West
Yorkshire's towns and cities this Christmas.

"Stay with a group of trusted friends, keep drinking under control, and make sure you are able to assert yourself properly. Have an enjoyable night out."

What do we expect, if you rape someone and found guilty etc. you get 1 year inside but dodge paying the taxman or cheat benefits and you get 5 years.

What I'm trying to say is that money is far more important than human life so there is no real deterant to stop rapists
