BUSINESSES across Calderdale are being asked to join in the Totally Locally campaign by offeriong a £5 "bargain box."
The campaign, backed by the Courier, began in October.

It wants to get people using their local shops.

One of the messages in the campaign was that if everyone in Calderdale spent £5 a week in their local shop, it would bring an extra £40 million into the area's economy each year.

The latest part of the campaign wants businesses to offer a special offer to shoppers.

They want traders to sell a special item for £5, to make it easy for shoppers to make their contribution.

Campaign organiser Beth Ward said: "It could be a £5 special meal, a £5 fruit and veg box, a £5 meat pack or a £5 flower bouquet.

"It could be one product or it could be loads.

"We're encouraging shops to come up with something special for that £5 so people come in and spend it."

The "Fiver-Fest" will run from February 26 to March 14 in shops across Calderdale.

Any businesses who are interested in taking part should visit www.totally-locally.co.uk.

You wouldn't get much meat for a fiver! And would the hypothetical fruit, meat, flowers and "meals" be locally sourced - if not, it rather defeats the object, doesn't it?

#6 I've bought meat from there on occasion - it is excellent quality. Their gammon steaks are particularly good.

The council could help here by offering 10 or 15 minute parking rates for people like me who pop into town to buy fish from the market. Why should I have to pay 40p for 30 minutes that I don't use?
