Talks between Sita UK and Kerbside Calderdale over who should collect recyclable waste across the district have ended in failure.

It means Kerbside will carry on collecting from 25,000 homes in direct competition with Sita, which takes responsibility for refuse services for all 90,000 homes on August 4.

Kerbside has sent letters to all its customers urging them to keep using their boxes, to help keep the social enterprise in business.
A council spokesman said it was regrettable that the two sides were unable to reach an agreement.

did anyone at calderdale council honestly think that a company lite sita would even consider kerbside - - - not a chance sita are a large major concern who are only interested in their own profit

jon..........................the first part of your sentence the answer is Calderdale are not there to think about this just get the lowest price!

as far as the second part is concerned thats why they exist, but if Fosca are anything to go by Sita will make a loss on its first contract in the hope of making profits on the fiture contract.

but........why do they need to pay kerbside to do it if kerside can do it without?

more money in thier coffers (sitas) bet your life sita are paid for doing it!

i cant see how kerbside can make the books balance, but there again i dont have too.

Kerbside have proved to be a very reliable operation in the years since they started. If it ain't broke why try to fix it? Only our gallant council could dream up a scheme like this.

Ryburn36.

It's not strictly the law, CCT (compulsory competetive tendering) was abolished 1998, but we are now on "best value"

If the council wanted to they could have taken it in house....

Kerbside have served us well since they began the service in this area. I think we should all show some solidarity with them, as they are providing employment for people and the profits are not going out of the UK. If everybody paid £15 a year to Kerbside they could carry on doing the good job they provide. Come on Courier, get behind them - how about a Poll on peoples' views on this one?
