Earlier this year there was a public outcry over plans to close Rastrick Health Centre and incorporate it into a new development. The idea was eventually dropped after a campaign by residents.

Now, the proposed site for the new health centre at Birds Royd Lane has been ditched after a review.

The NHS Calderdale Board will consider alternative options later this month with the Wellholme Park area on Bradford Road a possibility.

This is also the site for the town's proposed new swimming pool.

It will be next year before a site is bought and a planning application submitted.

The new centre will provide an extended range of services for health and social care.

Colin Stout said serious consideration should be given to demolishing the Lawson Road building which is currently occupied by health and council staff.

Another option might be the old swimming pool site in Mill Royd Street, said Coun Stout (Ind, Brighouse).

"We need to locate a site and get the new health centre developed as soon as possible," he said.

This week Calderdale Council asked for ideas for Brighouse Town Hall with the warning it would be sold off if no suitable use could be found. But it is unlikely the old building could be adapted to meet the needs of a modern health centre.
