A COACH driver had a lucky escape when he woke to find his vehicle ablaze.

Firefighters from Elland and Greater Manchester attended the incident at 2am yesterday on Oldham Road at Saddleworth Moor.

Elland crew manager, Andy Morris, said the motorist went to sleep in the passenger compartment with the engine running.

"He had a lucky escape. He is lucky he woke up as there were no smoke detectors on board. When he did wake up he found the back of the bus on fire and the rest of it smoke logged. It was a severe fire."
