STAINLAND Road is again open to two-way traffic from West Vale to Salterhebble.
Nearly 15 months of disruption meant drivers from Halifax had to endure a lengthy diversion around Elland to reach West Vale and surrounding areas.

Richard Mills, of Calderdale Council highway engineers, said: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the essential maintenance repairs. We would like to thank everyone for their patience."

Work continues on the canal bridge at Salterhebble and should be completed by May 16.

That involves building parapets to the bridge and the reinstatement of electricity cables into the footpath over the bridge.

A further one day closure on Sunday, May 11, will be required to allow final resurfacing of the bridge and adjacent road surface.

Still looks a big hole. Open for a couple of days and then more delays???
Something magical about the end of March. Penalties?
The time taken has been laughable and we still have a dangerous junction with traffic flying down from the right when you come out of Stainland road. The mini roundabout is a shambles.

chinaman - why do you think its the contractors fault? how do you know that the project was "carillions risk?"

As much as I hate traffic lights, this is one junction where they may be a benefit. There is nothing worse than waiting at the end of Wakefield Road, trying to join Elland Bypass, and seeing the traffic lights at the top of the slope at green, whilst being held back by a stream of traffic coming from West Vale, which has priority at the mini roundabout.

Chigley,
Didn't they do some research on placing lights there, I believe the result was that the phasing was nigh on impossible with the number of permutations required?
Still these things are constantly being improved and maybe another stab should be tried. Certainly getting on the bypass is a menace with two lanes, and the usual idiots flying past and changing midstream.

Peter, sorry, dunno if they have done any surveys or not, it just seems silly to have traffic backing up to Copley, when the lights onto the bypass are on green....and no one can get to them, as they are held back at the mini roundabout.

Chigley,
Yeah, It is chronic and I am amazed that there haven't been more accidents on this spot. They seem to have spent forever trying to get this right, recently I think they've given up and abandoned it!
Cheers.
