THE weather's warming up...and it's bringing the pests with it.
Sneaky raiders took advantage of the start of summer and raided FIVE homes in 12 hours.
Now police are warning homeowners to lock up and take extra care with home security as Calderdale starts to enjoy the summer warmth.
At three of the houses, raiders got in through doors or windows left open or unlocked.
And all the raids happened in daylight.
Det Insp Ashley Hewitt said: "It is the beginning of Calderdale's biggest problem now the sunshine has arrived.
"Sneak-in burglaries happen much more frequently during the summer because people provide easy opportunities for thieves.
"People need to remember to lock doors and keep windows shut – even upstairs."
A laptop and TV were stolen from a house on Exley Lane, Exley, Halifax, after burglars got in through an unlocked door.
Later the same day, a burglar was seen fleeing from a house on Norwood Green Hill, Norwood Green.
He escaped with a gold watch, badge and golf bag after climbing through an open upstairs window.
The suspect was described as a young man wearing a black tracksuit which had white flashes on the trousers.
Then, just minutes later, a mobile phone was stolen from a house in neighbouring Station Road in the village. The raider had climbed in through an open window.
Another two burglaries happened in Smith House Lane, Brighouse, and Wakefield Road, Lightcliffe, but there the offenders forced open the doors. A flat-screen television and Playstation console were stolen from the Brighouse property, between 8.45am and 3.30pm.
And another flat-screen television was stolen from the house in Lightcliffe after burglars struck between 6.40pm and 8.20pm.
Det Insp Hewitt said they were still investigating whether the burglaries were linked but urged people with information or who saw anything suspicious in the areas to get in touch.
Anyone with information should contact Calderdale CID on 01422 337085.

just what the householders wanted just before filing their insurance claim - all burgularies involved open doors - advertised widely in the halifax courier.

wonder how many will get their claims rejected because of this............
