A HALIFAX teenager is campaigning to challenge age discrimination.
Usman Ali, a pupil at the Crossley Heath School, Halifax, is part of a group gathering evidence of discrimination against children.

The 15-year-old said: "When school finishes and children go to the shop no more than two young people are allowed in at a time. If it said no more than two black people or no more than two old people allowed in at a time, that would be discrimination, so why should young people be victimised? It is about time the UK Government acted."

Well I mean.

The reason may be that old people are not renowned for swiping penny spanishes.

Although a gob-stopper or two would not harm some of them.

It's this selfish liberal attitude that has put this country in the dire state it is in now. Just has a nightclub has the right to refuse admission so an individual has the right to refuse admission into their shop.
Mr Ali sounds like a bright kid but surely headline grabbing ideas like this to promote his own status are not in the interest's of thousands of shop owners across the country who are trying to make a living whilst battling against shoplifters everyday.
Tesco can afford security staff, cctv and alarms at the entrance most shop owners are lucky if they can afford basic cctv.
Maybe he should be using his intelligence to find away of promoting responsible law abidding behaviour amongst his peers when they enter a shop, that way shop owners will not be afraid to allow more than 2 in at a time.

Yes, lets look at age discrimination. Then we can remove the subsidies that people under 26 get for air travel or discounts that students get. Why should tax paying adults not get any of these benefits too because that sounds like discrimination to me.

Careful what you wish for Usman... you may just lose more benefits that you gain from it. If having more than just you and a mate in a shop is the major worry in your life then I wish I had life as easy.

Why stop there? Why have age restrictions on driving, drinking, smoking, gambling, voting, getting married. Surely they're discriminatory too?

Then we'll have to try child offenders as adults; be able to conscript children into the army. The minimum working age will have to go. Get 6 year olds working on building sites: ANYTHING ELSE IS DISCRIMINATION!

Usman, you're obviously a smart lad for your years, but there's a good reason why CHILDREN don't have the same liberties as their elders. When you're older you'll understand why.

Discrimination does occur against young people and I think it's important the government addresses it. This article has been looked at the wrong way and misses a lot of information. The government is planning on making a new law against age discrimination. However they think it's not necessary that young people are included in this law. Therefore, young campaigners like Usman are trying to change the governments view on the matter.
