A THIEF on a bike snatched a rug from outside a carpet warehouse in Brighouse.
The man rode off with his haul – a red rug measuring 4ft x 5ft on display outside Direct Carpets on Bethel Street.

A nearby trader saw the cyclist take the piece of carpet on Thursday at 1.30pm.

She said he tried to take other rugs but they were too heavy so he settled for a lighter one. "He put the mat on his bicycle and rode off," she said.

Direct Carpets owner Ken Higgins was in the back of the store when it happened.

Police have appealed for anybody who saw a young man on a pushbike with a red rug to contact them on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Our Success in Cycling at the Olympics has surely inspired the thieving scroatbags of our society to train at the Velodrome.

Well I mean.

Was it by any chance a magic carpet he flew away with?

Is there an Arabian connection? At least the pie gang have been ruled out.

I guess she didn't want to get involed and get stabbed or something.

OR maybe she was busy at the time stealing a television from across the road or beating up a bus driver.

3. Why should the general public have to risk their safety? Maybe more police on the streets would help instead of cutting their numbers back and loading them with paperwork?
