A MAN was seriously injured when his van veered down a steep embankment.
The air ambulance was called to take the 34-year-old Halifax man to Leeds General Infirmary after the accident on Oldham Road, Ripponden, at 1.30pm yesterday.
Fire crews from Halifax and Elland helped paramedics free the man, who was thrown into the back of the white Mercedes Sprinter van and trapped there.
Sgt Garry Alderson, of Calderdale road traffic police, said: "The man was travelling from the motorway towards Sowerby Bridge when he reached a severe right-hand bend where the vehicle went out of control, for reasons still being investigated."
The van rolled down the ravine and came to rest against a telegraph pole halfway down.
Fire crews stabilised the vehicle and rescued the man.
No other vehicles were involved.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. Any witnesses are asked to contact the collision investigation team on 01422 337234.
