IT is an 18th-century castle complete with lagoon, swimming pool, private gym and five en-suite bedrooms each with a private TV, DVD and music system.
And this Stainland mansion – set in 10 acres of perfectly manicured landscaped gardens and deer park – has just been named the most beautiful home in Britain.

Owner of Folly Castle Terry George, 43, said: "It's a remarkable title to win and we're absolutely delighted.

"I think people love the fact it's a castle but inside it's really intimate. It has the wow factor."

The £4 million palace, bought by Mr George and partner Michael Rothwell five years ago, won the accolade after Channel Five viewers voted it their favourite home during an eight-week series I Own Britain's Best Home.

It beat competition from 24 other homes, including a Gloucester-shire watermill and a London flat.

Viewers were particularly impressed by the cosy sun lounge, waterside terrace, an attic bedroom, hi-tech office and an exposed ornate 18th-century bell tower.

Leeds-born Mr George, managing director of 13 companies, added: "We fell in love with it straight away and we've based a lot of the interior on boutique hotels that we loved staying in. It's great to win because it feels like people have appreciated what we've done with the place."

Makers of the show approached him after seeing Folly Castle featured in 25 Beautiful Homes magazine.

Mr Rothwell said: "You don't expect the best house to be in Yorkshire so it's a huge honour."
