A BANNER advertising this year's Halifax Long March has been stolen.

The 8ft by 3ft orange sign was strung on railings outside Ebenezer Methodist Church, St James Road, Halifax.

It had been donated by Christian Aid and it was the first year a sign had been used to promote the march, now in its 45th year. Chairwoman Bridget Hindley said: "We are really disappointed.

"We ask whoever removed it to return it to us, perhaps leaving it at the YMCA.

"We're eager to get lots of people walking this year so the loss of the banner at such a crucial stage is very frustrating."

In the Long March, people walk or run 13 or 26 miles on a secret route around Calderdale, raising money for Christian Aid.

More than 100 people have already signed up this year.

The deadline for application forms is March 29. Get one from tourist information centres in Calderdale or the YMCA Halifax.

Pretty obvious?
If it isn't encased in concrete with an armed guard they'll steal it.
Most likely the thief will have just chucked it in a nearby skip.

I believe that most of the disgusting scabs who live in Halifax will steal ANYTHING if they can get their hands on it. Pathetic scrounging scratters, the lot of them.

Just a suggestion for if they catch them leave them,(as in the article) 'strung on railings outside Ebenezer Methodist Church, St James Road'. See if anybody can be bothered to un-string them, I for one wouldn't.

It will have been bored youths being pointlessly destructive. Now they'll see this and think it"s hilarious to have made the paper and continue to do such things to make an impact!! I know it must sound like a good idea to make an appeal but it is going to have the opposite effect!!! Am I right?

On the plus side, look at all this free advertising they're getting in the Courier.

True, but I think more people would have seen it where it was than HEC readers?
