THE widow of a man killed in an alleged honour killing has denied receiving death threats prior to her husband's death.

And Yasmin Bibi Shahid, 25, told Leeds Crown Court that she been seeing her brothers Arza Khan, 27, and Tahir Mahmood, 22, of Parkinson Lane, Halifax in prison since they were arrested on suspicion of Mian Shahid Mehmood's murder but denied that it was at the insistence of her mother.

She said: "I wanted to visit them, they are my brothers. I will carry on seeing them until I know the truth."

Mr Mehmood was found with two gunshot wounds in his back at Great Edge Road, Warley, on February 11 last year.

The prosecution allege that Mrs Shahid's family took exception to her marriage when they found out, and two of her brothers - Khan and Mahmood - took out a contract on her husband's life.

They are charged alongside Naveed Mahmood, 23, of Granville Road, Sheffield, John Reeves, 54, of Adlington Road, Sheffield, and Sam Lee, 30, of Deerlands Avenue, Sheffield.

All five deny murdering Mr Mehmood.
