A WOMAN stole 38 items – all from a 99p shop.
Nina Hughes, 32, of Weaver's Brook, Illingworth, Halifax, admitted theft, breaching a conditional discharge and failing to surrender to custody.

Waseem Raja, prosecuting, said Hughes left the 99p Store in Market Street, Halifax, without paying.

She was spotted with two large carrier bags which she used to hide items totalling £37.62.

"She left and made no attempt to pay," said Mr Raja. Staff had seen her take the items, stopped her and the police were called.

Hughes told officers she needed money for her electricity meter at home.

She then failed to attend court twice and was also charged with breaching a conditional discharge imposed in February for a similar offence of theft.

Michelle Flaga, for Hughes, said her client has had a dependency on drugs and alcohol.

She said: "She was struggling with her finances."

She was given a community order for 18 months with a supervision requirement and was also told that she must attend an alcohol treatment programme for 12 months.

The old demon drink again...it's a sad reflection of life when a young woman of 32 has a drink problem.

£37.62 divided by 99p = 38 items.

They must have been two very large carrier bags!
