A special quilt has been pieced together from patches left - some anonymously - in a basket at an exhibition at Bankfield Museum.
Calder Quilters put together the exhibition in 2011 and made kits for people to try making patches themselves. Roz Goodwin, of the quilters, said: “Every time the basket emptied, more kits would appear, until a total of 640 kits had been made and given out. Although no mention was made of completed blocks being returned - some were. Most were left with museum staff or on the table next to the basket. Some blocked were worked by group members and friends, neighbous, and although the exhibition was invigilated constantly by group members, some were returned anonymously.
“The result is a charming community quilt.”
The quilt is on display in the Ackroyd Library at Bankfield Musuem.
