Residents in West Vale and Greetland recaptured the spirit of the Grand Depart by gathering on West Vale Viaduct to open a new cycle way.

Families waved yellow flags and cheered as the local MP Craig Whittaker cut a yellow ribbon to officially open the new walking and cycling path.

The project, funded by Calderdale Council and the Railway Heritage Trust and delivered by the charity Sustrans, aims to increase the amount of high quality cycling infrastructure.

Craig Whittaker MP said “It’s a delight to see our heritage assets being brought back into use and it’s clear that hosting the Tour de France has inspired lots of people in Yorkshire to try cycling, perhaps for the first time in a long time.”
