STAFF and students at Sowerby Bridge High School have been rewarded for their work around cultural diversity.

The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust assessed the school earlier this year and awarded the silver prize for cultural diversity.

Inspectors met students who provided a tour and explained how the school makes every student feel welcome and valued.

Post-16 students also explained how they organise activities like sports tournaments for all students.

One of the school’s main project is its link with Kandy High School in Sri Lanka - where students have visited and reported back their experiences.

Head teacher Kate Sanderson said: “Feedback from the assessor was nothing but positive about the school and our students.

“We can now proudly display the award as affirmation and recognition of our work in respect of recognising and celebrating difference.”
