SUCCESSFUL businesses and voluntary groups were showcased to the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire in a tour of Calderdale’s hidden gems.
The Community Foundation for Calderdale hosted the annual tour for Dr Ingrid Roscoe, who is president of the foundation, as well as the Queen’s representative in West Yorkshire.
The tour started at Gibson Mill, before moving to Somerset House for a buffet lunch and a tour of Harvey’s department store, where Roger Harvey presented a £1,000 cheque to Halifax teen charity Project Challenge.
Steve Duncan, the foundation’s chief executive, said: “Once a year, we invite the Lord Lieutenant on a tour where we work with local businesses and voluntary organisations and set up visits, where they can talk about the sucesses they are having.”
The tour ended at Dean Clough where lifetime membership certificates were awarded to those who have donated the equivalent of twenty times the foundation’s annual membership rate – which included the Courier.
He added: “As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations we’re recognising the generosity of a number of those who have become life members.
“Without the donations from our members such as the Halifax Courier, life- changing initiatives such as Project Challenge wouldn’t be having the same impact they are currently having on the people of Calderdale.”
