a MAN has appeared in court charged with assault and public order offences after allegedly hitting his girlfriend and threatening a Polish man.

Stuart Stacey is accused of causing Gemma Sladden actual bodily harm in an attack on April 16 in Brighouse.

Later that day, he is said to have caused Alex Danilods fear of violence by using threatening, abusive or insulting words against him in a racially-aggravated tirade.

Stacey is also said to have caused fear of violence to a police officer at the scene.

The 46-year-old, of Wellstone Garth in Swinnow, Leeds, entered no plea to the charges when he appeared at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court.

The bench granted him conditional bail and committed the case to Bradford Crown Court.

Stacey will appear there for the next hearing on August 1.
