A football club has raised £3,000 for charity after completing two gruelling challenges.

AFC Halifax, the supporters team of FC Halifax Town, took on the Yorkshire three peaks last weekend. Fourteen players, including former Shayman Paul Sykes, climbed the Pen-y-ghen, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks in 11 and a half hours.

Last month the squad completed the Jane Tomlinson Run for All 10k in Leeds – crossing the line together as a team.

Since AFC Halifax formed in 2006, the club has raised over £20,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Manager John Barker said: “It was the hardest physical challenge the team has done yet, but it was a very rewarding experience.

“I would like to thank all the people who have sponsored us in raising so much for charity.”
