Alysoun Sturt-Scobie is preparing for her worldwide yachting adventure which is now just weeks away.
The 40,000 mile global sail begins on September 1 and final preparations are getting under way.
Forty-nine year old Alysoun was born in Halifax but is now based between France and Switzerland and astoundingly had absolutely no sailing experience before she decided to sign up for the race.
It will take her just less than a year to complete the gruelling race in her 70-foot ocean clipper.
Alysoun will be leaving home on August 10 for boat preparation, before taking the boats up to London on August 18 ahead of the race .
Mum of three Alysoun said: “I’m in my last week in the office. It’s really weird that I’m going to be relocating my desk, my laptop, my phone for a 70-foot boat.
“My colleagues have just been fantastically supportive and really encouraging of what I’m getting into.
“Right now I just want to be on the start line. There’s so much really practical stuff to sort out between now and then.”
The sail - which will see Alysoun celebrate her big 5-0 on board - is not the only achievement Alysoun will be involved with this year.
“I did the amateur stage of the Tour de France a couple of weeks ago,” she said.
“That was really brilliant to do that I’ve managed to fit in 3,000 km of cycling since January as well as fitting in the sailing.”
Alysoun will be raising money for Kenya and Indian based charities. Check out her progress on http://spinnakersandspokes.wordpress.com.
