Aspin expecting a tough Bloods test

BOSS Neil Aspin is expecting a tough test when Town entertain Droylsden in their home pre-season opener at the Shay tomorrow (3.0).

Town swept aside neighbours Brighouse last weekend, but face a much stiffer challenge against a side that finished fifth in Conference North last season.

"Droylsden are probably the best footballing side in Conference North," said Aspin. "It will be a big step up for us.

"If you allow them to play, they can punish you and it will be a difficult game.

"It is also a good game in terms of fitness because we could spend a lot of time chasing the ball and trying to win it back."

Aspin will give as many of his squad a run out as the match officials allow with all of the summer signings set to feature.

James Dean (knee) is still not fit but Nicky Gray is expected to be included having missed out last weekend with a stiff back.

"You saw last week that players wanted to play full matches" said Aspin.

"As a player games are always better than training regardless of the score."

Aspin is hoping to draft in one new face to join those on show last weekend, although that is subject to confirmation.

The team at Brighouse included defender Matt Plummer who will be looking to make his mark against the Bloods as he bids to earn a place in the Shaymen's Evo-Stik Premier Division squad.

"Matt is a player we are having a look at with a view to bringing him in," said Aspin. "We have said to him that he has to go out and impress."

Plummer started his career at Hull City, moved to Darlington at the start of last season, and made one appearance for North Ferriby earlier this year.

More than 600 Town fans travelled the short distance to St Giles Road last weekend and Aspin is hoping for a good gate at the Shay tomorrow.

"It would be nice to get a decent crowd for the game," he said. "We had several good turnouts at the end of last season.

"There is a chance to see the new signings and we are playing attacking opposition. It should be a good game to watch."

Admission tomorrow is 7 for adults, 5 for concessions and 3 for juniors.
