A talented aspiring 20-year-old scientist has been awarded a £1,000 university scholarship.

Michaela Klemparova, who is studying towards a BSc in biomedical sciences, was one of 14 Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University) students to have been selected for the Bright Futures Scholarships.

Michaela, a former pupil of Sowerby Bridge High School, said: “It’s a great honour for me to receive this Bright Futures Scholarship.

“I can now focus my full attention on my degree course without the burden of financial worry.

“I have always been passionate about sciences and am very much enjoying being able to specialise in Biomedical Sciences at university with like-minded people.”

The scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit and who are the first in their family to go to university.

It offers financial support to students who might otherwise be unable to afford university education.
