Athletics: Hussain braves Leeds cold
A TOTAL of 30 Stainland Lions runners joined the 5,000 others who took to the roads in Leeds for the annual Abbey Dash from the Headrow to Kirkstall Abbey and back.
It was a bitterly cold morning but with no wind or rain the flat circuit made for some fast times, the race being won by Matt Janes of Bedford in 29 minutes, 32 seconds, with the first six men finishing in under 30 minutes.
First man home for Stainland was Sylvain Hussain in 37.04, a personal best time, followed by Steve Turner in 41.51, also a personal best, with Jonathon Wade clocking 43.54 and Gavin Dodd 44.51.
The ladies race was won by Helen Clitheroe of Preston Harriers while the first three ladies for the club were Victoria Carek, who finished in 46.00, Susan Gledhill, who clocked 46.53, with Maria Harron just behind in 46.55.
