A TEENAGER brutally attacked in a street robbery is breathing on his own.

Richard Lister, known as Rick to his friends, has been taken off the ventilator and is showing more signs of recovery.

“He’s still in and out of consciousness but it’s more like he is sleeping now than being unconscious,” said his mum, Debbie Critchell.

“He’s very weak but he is off the ventilator.”

The 18-year-old, from Skircoat in Halifax, has been in intensive care in Leeds General Infirmary since he was mugged last Thursday.

He was on his way to meet friends to celebrate his A-level results when he was attacked on Skircoat Green Road.

His family and best friend have been by his bedside, keeping a diary of everything that has been going on and his friends are putting together a book of well-wish messages for him.

Five people – four men and a woman – have been charged with the robbery.
