The Halifax Food & Drink Festival next weekend will feature its first cake competition.
Bakers are being challenged to submit a cake that celebrates the festival or Halifax on Saturday, June 22. Festival spokeswoman Michay Matthews said: “We want to celebrate the creative cookery talent of our historic minster town. It’s going to be the icing on the cake of the festival.”
There are four categories: Summer Showstopper, Teatime Favourites, Under-12s, and The Professionals. Cakes will be judged at Halifax Borough Market on the day.
The sixth festival will be buzzing with live chef demos, cookery workshops and more than 70 stalls (10am–5pm) and Sunday June 23 (10am–4pm).
The weekend has been designed to showcase both local and global cuisine. www.halifaxfoodfest.co.uk / Twitter @halifaxfoodfest / www.facebook.com/halifaxfoodfest
