A MAN has been jailed after he was caught driving while disqualified for the third time.
Dean Regan, 23, of Nursery Lane, Ovenden, Halifax, was jailed for 12 weeks at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court after admitting driving while disqualified and without insurance.
The court heard police officers spotted Regan driving at the junction of Cousin Lane and Keighley Road in Illingworth on Monday September 28 and recognised him as a banned driver.
James Weekes, prosecuting, said they followed the car but it sped away.
They later found it parked at Morrisons supermarket nearby and waited as Regan returned with his girlfriend, who got into the driver’s seat.
The court heard he had 24 previous convicions including two for driving while disqualifed in 2004 and 2005.
Mark Baxendale, mitigating, said it was “sheer stupidity” that Regan had driven his girlfriend’s car the short distance from the Furness estate to Morrisons at Illingworth.
As well as jailing Regan for 12 weeks for his “blatant disregard of court orders”, they added eight points to his licence for having no insurance.
