Batley Bulldogs v Halifax RLFC: Fax must stem the early tide to triumph
LAST August, Halifax were ambushed at Mount Pleasant.
The Bulldogs were fighting what, at times, had seemed like an unwinnable fight against relegation.
They also had a coach - the former Halifax front rower Karl Harrison - who was even more fiercely motivated than usual.
Fax were struggling for form and confidence and, to but it bluntly, were simply blown away in a desperate opening 40 minutes that saw the Bulldogs charge to a match-winning 28-6 half time lead.
That means the visitors will know exactly what is coming their way tonight.
Harrison's side will be just as fired up as they were last time round, perhaps even more so give then presence of two more former Halifax players - the man of the moment Lee Greenwood and the half back Gareth Moore - in their ranks.
There is little doubt that Fax have the quality to make it two Co operative Championship wins out of two.
But before they can even start to make that quality count, they need to match Batley's raw energy and enthusiasm, especially in the middle of the field.
They didn't do that last summer and they paid the price.
And if they fail to do so tonight, their lethargy is likely prove just as costly.
But if they win that scrap, and Matt Calland's army of playmakers can finally find some fluency with the ball in hand, then they should bring home two precious league points.
