A new arts venue in the centre of Halifax is hoping to be a creative hub for local talent.
Bedlam Arts Theatre in Somerset House has been set up by director Lee Barnes, from Warley, and actor Dan Wilson, from Shelf.
Lee, who has provided theatre for local schools and has had work seen at the Edinburgh Festival, said: “It’s a theatrical venue with theatrical people. “We’re not pen pushers, we’re passionate about what we do.
“There’ll be burlesque, jazz nights, a comedy club, actors from Calderdale College and drama workshops.
“We also want to start our own film school and make short films and hold festivals here.
“I’ve lived in Halifax most of my life and I know there’s a lot of talent here.
“Within three years we want to help people becoming directors, actors and producers.
“No-one else in Halifax does this - we want to be in the centre of the town and in people’s faces.”
Workshops for actors will be running at the theatre every Wednesday from the end of July offering audition preparation, script work, improvisation and various drama based activities.
