A BUSINESS leader has called on the Government to prioritise the upgrading of rail links through Halifax and Huddersfield.
David Horsman said business-friendly measures were needed to stimulate economic growth.
He told the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce annual dinner an export drive is also vital.
“We have repeatedly called for Government funding to be directed towards important infrastructure construction projects,” said Mr Horsman, chamber president.
“Such construction is not only fundamental to long-term prosperity but it will also greatly increase the levels of activity in a critically important sector.
“The electrification of rail links through Huddersfield and Halifax, and the upgrading of the network would have a positive impact on business and the Chamber is lobbying strongly for the Government to prioritise these projects.
“We also believe an export drive is vital in the overall programme to restore growth - so funding must be provided to encourage and help companies.
“Our Government should be doing more to support business.”
Mr Horsman congratulated the business community for adapting to demanding business conditions during the dinner held at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.
MC was Chris Choi, anchorman at ITN News, and he introduced the keynote speaker Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2.com.
World Cup Final referree Howard Webb entertained the diners with stories from his career in top-flight football.
