A fresh alert about conmen has gone out to Calderdale residents.
Police are warning of tricksters who knock at the door unannounced and try to get inside or offer to carry out work – often asking for money upfront for materials.
Detective Inspector Tony Nicholson said: “These people particularly target the elderly and vulnerable.
“Genuine salesmen won’t have a problem waiting on the doorstep while their identity is confirmed.
“And they will not ask for money beforehand in cash.”
He said another tactic was for a second conman to visit, offering to do the work at a “better” price.
He added: “Don’t do business with anyone who calls unexpectedly.
“If you have doubts, check their ID and call Trading Standards.”
