A body has been recovered from the rail line in Todmorden after being hit by a train.
British Transport Police confirmed that the driver of a Northern Rail train reported striking a body at 3.20pm on Friday afternoon.
Police have yet to formally identify the body, though it is thought to be a man.
Replacement bus services were put on for passengers travelling between Walsden and Todmorden.
West Yorkshire Police said: “At 3.20pm on Friday, the driver of a Northern Rail service reported having struck a person in the area of Walsden train station near Todmorden.
“British Transport Police, together with colleagues from West Yorkshire Police, and the ambulance service, attended the scene.
“A person was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.”
Last night the body had not yet been formally identified.
Inquiries were going on to identify the victim and to inform the next of kin.
This matter is not being treated as suspicious.
