Boston United v FC Halifax Town: Which side wants a semi-final place most?

HAVING beaten North Ferriby United in the previous round, Town must travel to Boston United tonight for a Unibond League Cup quarter final clash.

And, like the game against the Humbersiders a fortnight ago, it is very much an unwanted distraction for Neil Aspin's promotion-chasers.

The good news is that with Boston also in the thick of the race to get out of the Premier Division, they may not be taking this particular competition any more seriously than the Shaymen.

They currently trail leaders Bradford Park Avenue by three points and have played three games more.

And given that there is just one automatic promotion place up for grabs - and there is plenty of competition from the likes of Retford, North Ferriby and Guiseley - a League Cup semi-final place may not be that high a priority.

One thing in the Lincolnshire side's favour is that they do not currently have a game arranged for March 13 which is semi-final day.

The Shaymen on the other hand are scheduled to entertain fellow Unibond One North high flyers Colwyn Bay that day.

And the prospect of having to rearrange that game for a second time - and into a week where they would already be playing on the Tuesday as things stand - is not particularly appealing.

Town have won four games to get to this stage of the competition, beating Garforth Town, Ossett Albion and Durham City as well as North Ferriby.

It will be only Boston's third tie, having overcome Sheffield and Hucknall to get here.

You feel that few connected with Halifax Town would be too concerned should Boston claim a third win and go through.
