Bowls: Mixed fortunes for Calderdale

CALDERDALE took the honours with a 7-3 derby success over Hebden Royd in the Federation of Crown Green Bowls Yorkshire Sixty-Plus League.

It was a day of mixed fortunes for both teams with Royd's defeat seeing them anchored to the bottom of the table.

However, in a dramatic reversal, they went on to beat highly-fancied league leaders Worth Valley A by the same score.

Calderdale, meanwhile, followed up their victory with a narrow 6-4 defeat at the hands of Leeds B.

The two sides shared winners with the Leeds team picking up the aggregate two points by the narrow margin of two chalks.

Hebden Royd were hoping to claw back some ground going into their next round of fixtures at Leeds today.

Royd, who have two matches in hand on the top sides, were due to meet North Yorkshire B this morning and North Yorkshire B in the afternoon.
