A Halifax boy has won The Christopher Hall Award for A Child of Courage run by fundraising organisation Pop 4 Diabetes.

Ben Ward, 8, from Halifax, was diagnosed with Type one diabetes as a one-year-old and his two of his siblings ,Ebony and Toby, also have diabetes.

Last year, Ben was nominated for a Champion Children’s Award, run by the Halifax Courier, and unfortunately the day after the awards ceremony took place he had to be rushed to hospital.

On New Year’s Day 2016, Ben was also diagnosed with epilepsy.

The award recognises how inspirational Ben is to those around him and how he has shown courage in dealing with diabetes.

The event was supported by Eastenders stars Jamie Borthwick (Jay) and Harry Reid (Ben).

Both actors gave Ben plenty of attention after he won his award and he had lots of photos with the TV personalities.
