CALDERDALE’S champion brass band has now been voted Band of the Year 2011.

Brighouse and Rastrick has been ahead of the pack for the last two years. In 2010 and 2011 it was crowned Yorkshire Champions and Champion Band of Great Britain.

It is now celebrating again after winning the Band of the Year title with 23.6 per cent of votes cast by the users of the online brass band website 4Barsrest.

Last year the band was also named most successful band of the night out of 120 competing at the Saddleworth Whit Friday contest.

It also teamed up with the Unthanks folk group for a seven date UK tour in addition to the 30 concerts B&R performed in the UK and Europe.

Additionally, B&R’s professional Australian conductor Professor David King, was voted conductor of the year with 35.3 per cent of the votes.

B&R can been seen at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday January 28 sharing the stage with the 90-strong Halifax Youth Choir raising funds for the Forget-Me-Not Trust children’s hospice.

The band returns to the same venue on March 24 when it will be joined by the Welsh champions Cory Band and guest conductor Owain Arwel Hughes.

Tickets for both concerts can be obtained from the ticket office on 01484 223200.
